Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale: April 26th, 2019
This week we have four fixers and one time capsule home for you. Houses sold 'as is' require a lot of dedication and money to bring them up to standard due to deferred maintenance but they are also often the most original since they retain features, finishes and that character you just can't fake. Fixers require vision and the ability to look past water stains, grime and neglect and see the potential diamond in the rough. In areas of greater land value, properties like these are often marketed for their land value and the house barely gets a mention. These are the mid century modern homes most at risk and deserve our attention too. Let's hope sensitive buyers will breathe new life into them!
Unique Modern Fixer in Gilford, NH - 1,391 sqft. ($149,000)
A real diamond in the rough here with a 1965 design by Yale architect Charles Brewer. An eye-catching multi-faceted roofline lets in light from all directions and the angled walls and level changes make for a very interesting house. Needs plenty of work and being sold as is, this is a dream project. The house is sited on 2.4 acres for privacy. Read more about Charles Brewer and another fascinating piece of architecture, the off grid, Caribbean cliff dwelling of Moonhole here.

Stunning Foreclosure Deal in Mchenry, IL. 1868 sqft. ($239,000)
Really interesting 1960 house here with a courtyard, massive stone fireplace, large screened porch, dramatic structure, original built-ins throughout and a whopping 7 wooded acres. Competition will be fierce for this one!

Folded Plate MCM at Risk in West Bloomfield, MI - 2,123 sqft. ($875,000)
Very unique and probably all-original 1973 mid-century modern home with folded plate roof and an entire wall of glass is being marketed as a lot only, so it is highly likely it will meet the wrecking ball. Check out the second photo for an idea of the size of home people are building on neighboring lots. The one to the left dwarfs the property in question. Maybe we can find someone to save it.

Contemporary Ranch Fixer in Dayton, OH - 3,494 sqft. ($130,000)
Another all original 1961 mid-century home needing work but going for a bargain price. This one has almost 3,500 square feet, sits on a half acre and includes an in-ground pool. It's a shame there aren't interior photos but the fireplace looks great. Its neighbors are two other modern homes in much better shape so I'm sure they will be happy to see the place revitalized.

All-Original 1961 Home in Bartlesville, OK - 3,107 sqft. ($269,000)
Our final house is not a fixer but just check out all the beautiful original features and finishes in this Bartlesville home. Everything from the post and beam frame, cone fireplace, brick fireplace, walls of windows and wrap around deck to wood panelling make this is a real time capsule.
