Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale: October 19th, 2018
The price is right for several of these mid-century modern properties currently for sale. In Illinois, there are two spectacular homes both priced below $140,000. If you're looking for a way to spend the $1 Billion jackpot for tonight's Mega Millions Lottery, may we suggest the 7,000 square feet of organic architecture in California?
Bargain Beauty in Murphysboro, IL - 3,000 sqft. ($127,900)
All original 1961 mid century modern ranch here with so many great features to love. Walls of windows, built ins, fireplace, carport - you name it, this house has it. Really nicely staged period furniture (and some great congas!), so this one will not last long.

House in the Trees in Fairview Park, OH - 4,948 sqft. ($679,900)
EDIT: This property may not be on the market after all. We just found out that a property at 18660 was incorrectly entered as 18600 making these old listing photos pop up. The photos were then updated just now and how a completely different house. Sorry for the confusion. We still love this house though!
Built on a steeply sloping wooded lot, this is a true modern treehouse. One of the coolest fireplaces with built in seating we've ever seen, a huge glass sunroom and loads of space makes this character-filled 1965 house one to check out.
The listing is still being updated so it's best to google the address (18600 West Valley Ln, Fairview Park, Ohio 44126) for the most up to date one.
Check out this listing in the meantime.
PNW Post and Beam Needs Help in Auburn, WA - 1,830 sqft, ($375,000)
This is a wonderful 1965 post and beam ranch with amazing bones that has been modified by the addition of a pitched roof. Our house was in a similar situation when we bought it two years ago and removing the pitched roof last year improved the house immeasurably. Aside from the roof issue it really is a nice home with great windows, generously sized rooms and plenty of original charm. It could do with some higher contrast beams to really make the structure pop and perhaps some cork flooring to provide a bit more variety in terms of color. Someone please help this house!
FYI - According to the listing there's an open house on 10/20.

Affordable Character Home in Aledo, IL - 1,819 sqft. ($139,900)
Lots to like in this unique 1953 home set on a hillside in Aledo, IL. Great fireplace, clerestory windows, original built ins and redwood panelling. Light filled, warm home on almost 1.5 acres and a very affordable 139.9k pricetag.

Supersized Organic Architecture in La Verne, CA - 7,000 sqft. ($3,000,000)
It wouldn't be an MCM real estate roundup without one out-of-this-world listing. Designed by Foster Rhodes Jackson, this 1963 property is true architectural eye candy. The details and quality of the workmanship (the late great Sam Maloof did much of the woodwork) are very impressive and while I love a great fireplace with built in seating, having 5 does seem a bit excessive... as does the 7,000 square feet, the 6 bedrooms and the 7 bathrooms. The sheer size and scope (and price!!) of this work makes it hard to comprehend or imagine living there but there's no denying the architect's skill.
