Mid-Century Modern Real Estate for Sale: December 29th, 2017
These mid-century homes are all properties we love, and ones we hope will find considerate and passionate owners! If you're looking for mid-century homes for sale, then one of these could be the right fit. This week we feature an iconic Palm Desert house that comes with $50,000 to help defray renovation costs as well as homes elsewhere in California, Washington, Oregon and Connecticut.
Walter White Wave House in Palm Desert, CA - 800 sqft. (Auction Price, no Minimum)
Just outside of Palm Springs is Palm Desert, where you'll find the small but iconic Wave House by Walter White. The home was built in 1955 for artist Miles C Bates, and its most noticeable feature is the rollercoaster roofline that echoes the mountain range in the distance. The home will be auctioned by the City of Palm Desert, and it comes with an unusual bonus: $50,000 to help with preservation costs. This is a structure that deserves to be saved, so hopefully the right buyers will come along at auction.

Mid-Century Post and Beam in Tacoma, WA - 2,697 sqft. ($600,000)
Japanese-inspired single-slope roof home built in 1957, with some remodeling done in 1970. Certainly inspired by the Eichler homes of California, the listing actually attributes the design to Josef Eichler, (who was not an architect), so there is some misinformation here. Beautiful staircase, block feature walls and hardwood flooring. Surrounded by trees, making it feel very wooded yet it is located in a neighborhood. Lots of high windows for natural light and privacy.

Income-Generating Ranch Home in Ashland, OR- 3,136 sqft. ($575,000)
This single-story ranch home was built in 1964 and is an arched laminated beam structure with an indoor swimming pool. Fireplaces and natural wood add warmth to the property, and there are also gardens and additional structures like a woodshop and a greenhouse. Close to skiing and surrounded by nature, this is a property that is currently rented out through Airbnb. That means it could be a great full-time residence or a rental property.

Frank Lloyd Wright Apprentice Home in Saint Helena, CA - 875 sqft. ($2,650,000)
This property is certainly asking a staggering price per square foot, but the expense seems in line with the area's market and the value of the structure itself. This relatively small house was built in 1957 by Mark Mills, an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright. It is situated on more than seven acres, which is certainly responsible for the multi-million-dollar price point. The home boasts epic views, unique use of materials and a circular design.
