Mid-Century Modern Real Estate for Sale: Nov 2nd, 2018
Quite a few fantastic post and beam homes included in this week's real estate roundup as well as some wonderful architect-designed homes. Check out the Alden Dow design in Michigan and the Charles Goodman design in Maryland. If you have a spare $63 million around, can we interest you in a Frank Lloyd Wright rescue?
Alden Dow Home in Adrian, MI - 2,034 sqft. ($219,900)
This unique 1960 Dow design is being sold by its original owner and as you'd expect, it's full of original details. We love the balcony overlooking the main living space, the imposing brick fireplace and the front facade. Some fantastic built ins and changing levels provide lots of visual interest.

Modern House in Springfield, NJ - 4,408 sqft. ($689,000)
Interesting layout in this 1962 home with the living and dining areas circulating around the central kitchen/utility core. Plenty of full height windows / skylights throughout and some great architectural detailing from the post and beam structure. Love the dramatic fireplace flanked by the beams!

Original Post and Beam Modern in Rose Hill, NC - 2,990 sqft. ($199,900)
Plenty of space for your money here and lots of nice design features to enjoy. This 1958 post and beam is nicely sited to give ample light to both levels and the modular construction is very pleasing. Lots of outdoor options with a balcony, deck and patio all accessible on the private side of the house. Strong fireplace, redwood paneling, beams and an all original kitchen are just some of the highlights.

Charles Goodman Home in Rockville, MD - 3,686 sqft. ($549,900)
Superb architect designed home here with interesting spaces, excellent natural light and lots of great 'moments'. Love the slightly off-center beams above the fireplace, the full height hallway and the cozy den. This 1960 home really deserves to be seen in person.

Light-Filled Rambler in Lake Bluff, IL - 1,972 sqft. ($689,000)
Very interesting roof line and interior level changes in this 1964 home. Some great details such as slit windows, wood screens and a minimalist fireplace. Currently the house gives off an early Cliff May Ranch vibe with its deep eaves and nods to the southwest but with subtle changes in the entry light and furniture, for example, it could become a very sharp Japanese style modernist house.

One more note! Unless you're in the market for properties in the $60 million range (aren't we all?) you might have missed that The Marden House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1959, is currently for sale. It's part of a huge estate in Virginia, and it serves as the "guest house" to the much larger main house (complete with 30-car garage - insert eye roll here). Let's hope that the eventual buyer of the $63 MILLION estate wants to keep, protect and preserve the Marden House - it's a real beauty!
