Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale: August 3rd, 2018

This week we're featuring five exciting mid century modern homes, including one that costs less than 60k and others by famous architects that will run you slightly more than that! As always, if you hear of any great MCM homes coming to or already on the market, shoot us an email and let us know.

Post and Beam Beauty in Riverside, CA - 1,660 sqft. ($515,000)

Great lines, light and character in this 1956 post, beam, glass and block home. Perched on a hillside, this house is all about the views. There are some updates, but enough of the original character remains. The addition of some warm wood paneling would really help balance the high contrast white walls/ceiling and dark beams.

Unique Butterfly Fixer in Willowick, OH - 1,000 sqft. ($59,900)

This 1950 home is ripe for restoration with a price tag to match. Designed by architect Seymour R. Joseph, it won the NAHB's 1950 Best Use of Glass award. Hopefully a sensitive buyer will reverse some of the previous owners' changes and the butterfly will take flight once more. If that wall of windows facing southwest was opened back up the living area would be wonderful. This house is on a relatively large lot for the area - this may make it a target for a developer.

Sculptural Masterpiece in Salt Lake City, UT - 3,278 sqft. ($999,900)

This Boyd Blackner 1964 showstopper has everything we look for in a great mid century modern home: The structure is exposed and is a work of art, the roof floats above the walls with clerestory windows, the setting is stunning and the open floor plan flows effortlessly between rooms and the outdoors. Check this one out!

Mark Mills Home in Oakland, CA - 2,024 sqft. ($950,000)

Another gem by architect Mark Mills, this one from 1957. The upper floor floats like a lantern above and out over the lot with its unique inverted scissor trusses and perimeter of windows. Needless to say, the quality of light here is incredible. Classic California Modern indoor - outdoor lifestyle is made effortless in this measured design. The home looks tastefully updated without losing too much of its original appeal.

Strikingly unique contemporary design by Detroit architect Sigmund Blum, this light-filled residence is stunning. The interior is lit by a large skylight and generous windows while sliding glass doors and ample balconies further enhance the connection with the outdoors. Placed in a beautiful setting this house is a minimalist's dream just waiting for you to add some carefully selected furniture.
